Illuminating Anniversaries Of This Week

December 21- In 1620, William Bradford and the other Mayflower Pilgrims land at Plymouth Rock.  In 1913, the first crossword puzzle is published in the New York World.  In 1937, the first full-length animated film-- Walt Disney's 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'-- premiers.  In a year which shall remain unspecified, but not so long ago as all that, my darling Doreen was born.  In 1967, the first heart transplant recipient dies 18 days after the operation.  In 1968, Apollo 8, the first manned expedition to the Moon, launches from Kennedy Space Center.  In 1988, a bomb explodes on Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland.

Anniversaries of interest for each day of the upcoming week will be found throughout the newsletter below.

STAY ON YOUR FEET, PEOPLE!

Keep sending in those victories, and keep spreading the truth about the tax. It is the sharing of knowledge and the resolution to stand up for the rule of law that will see our liberty from this scourge secured in the end, even though it's taking a bit longer than any of us would want.

Don't lose sight of the fact that the mountain of official acknowledgements of the legal correctness of what is done by the CtC-educated has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years, with none being more clear and telling than the evasions resorted-to by a couple of federal courts recently. (Some doozies are detailed in this text from my recent petition to the Supreme Court).

These acknowledgements are great resources for illuminating other minds with the truth. All that is then needed is to remind the timid that the willingness of corrupt institutions to abide by the law (or their refusal to do so) is NOT the measure used by grown-ups in the land of the free and home of the brave to determine the conditions in which they will live.

Real Americans don't accommodate fog, lies and a sliding scale of adherence to the rule of law. Real American men and women stand up for the truth and the law, come what may, knowing that it is only by setting the bar at the top and enforcing it, come what may, that liberties are secured.

"Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as freedom should not be highly rated."

-Thomas Paine

Further, although I have never charged anyone for my time and effort in producing this newsletter, or for any other intangible (and don't intend to start now, either), the circumstances of my protracted absence-- and a big fine being now imposed on me as part of the scamsters' "scare everyone back into the barn by attacking Pete" strategy-- have left me and my family in dire straits. In light of that fact, and in order to allow me to continue my work, I ask those who can to consider donations such as seem right to you, and to continue to order books, and see that they find welcoming homes.

If you don't support those standing between you and the Beast, pretty soon they won't be.

Funny (And Not So Funny) Things

PEOPLE ARE FUNNY (that is, mysterious). Without meaning to be anything but whole-heartedly sympathetic to those who lost loved ones in the massacre last Friday (which I am, both as a human being and as a parent), I find it curious that so much is being made of this shooting.

After all, while unable to cite specific data, I am confident that a little research could reveal 26 OTHER victims-- predominantly children-- who were murdered last Friday, by 26 individual killers. Certainly each of those tragic deaths are just as worthy of everyone's attention; what's more, most or all of the murderers responsible for these other tragedies are still at large and an ongoing danger to the rest of us, it must be imagined.

I have to suspect that what's at work here in the inordinate attention being paid to the Newtown event is simply how well a single big event like this serves the interests of the "infotainment" industry for economy in finding and delivering material which will capture viewers/readers. The nutcase killer here delivered a packaged news item requiring minimal investigative and travel effort and expense, and virtually no creative thinking.

That isn't to say that the networks and 'zines haven't been vying with each other to come up with the most captivating "angle" by which to best exploit the event and capture the most eyes to their particular saturation of the media market. I guess this IS 'creative work', in its way. But it's only creative marketing, not the far more demanding creative journalism. Marketing is always in gear in today's mainstream media, and the marginal cost of applying it to any new target-of-opportunity that throws itself into the public square for attention is small.

On the other hand, digging up and tying together and explaining things about 26 murders committed last Friday in different places and disparate circumstances that would capture public attention, or doing more than just marketing exploitation of the Newtown event, would take hard work and expensive resources. Further, such efforts might involve goring some status-quo-favored oxen by committing real journalism concerning violent-incident-related things like:

  • drug prohibition;

  • the increasing American consumption of mood-altering pharmaceuticals;

  • the psychological pathologies of ever-more-constrictions on individual liberty and the friction of ever-more contact by individual Americans with an ever-more lawless state apparatus;

  • the craziness of clumping kids together into easy mass targets in institutions instead of teaching them at home in far-greater safety and while delivering a far better education to boot; and

  • why many parents imagine themselves unable to afford child-safety-and education-enhancing homeschooling due to a widespread misunderstanding and consequent misapplication of the actually-limited "income tax" that arose in the 1940s and has forced both parents into the workplace just to make ends meet.

The better business decision for a media company just in it to maximize revenue is to stick to milking packaged tragedies presented on a plate like this Newtown massacre, getting every moment of airtime or column-inch of write-up possible.

ANOTHER FACTOR BEHIND THE INORDINATE sustained focus on this tragedy is the opportunity it presents to political factions pushing an agenda of disarming Americans. A broad public interest justifying this legislative agenda can be alleged based on the pretense that endless media coverage is viewer/reader responsive rather than industry-interest driven. This motivates the exploitation-minded faction to fan the flames and perpetuate the burn, which it does with a will.

The injection of a political issue into the mix adds a new aspect to the tragedy on which the media can focus additional 24/7 coverage. This gives the whole thing still more staying power, even as it morphs into a new shape dominated now by the political faction's application of the Emmanuel grow-the-state-at-every-opportunity dictum, "Never let a crisis [or tragedy] go to waste."

All of this dynamic is as predictable, and as instinctively understood by most folks as anything could be. And yet, it goes on, without a massive outpouring of disgust at the media hacks and their political class counterparts, and a cry to let the grieving parents and others who suffered losses in Newtown have the privacy and quiet needed to do their mourning and seek their peace. Like I said, people are funny.

***

THE EFFORT TO EXPLOIT THIS TRAGEDY in Newtown in service to the "gun control" agenda merits some further comment. In an interesting coincidence of timing, a bill to expand "concealed-carry" into schools (and other places where the practice is prohibited under current state law) had passed both houses of Michigan's Congress on Thursday, the day before this shooting incident. Had a bill of the same sort been enacted into law in Connecticut anytime prior to last Friday, someone in that Newtown school might well have been able to stop this tragedy before it had gone very far.

As it is, I'm very sorry to report that on Tuesday, December 18, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder caved to the caterwauling of mindless hysterics and the exploitive manipulations of enemies of the rule of law and vetoed this forethoughtful and freedom-respecting legislation. The next time helpless victims are gunned down here in Michigan in a place where the good guys have been deliberately disarmed, those folks and Governor Snyder will bear considerable responsibility.

This kind of dangerous pandering and cunning hobgoblin-flogging will be epidemic during the next month or so. It is our responsibility as grown-up, educated Americans to hold the line and uphold the law. Key to doing so is having a firm grasp on what the relevant law (that is, the Constitution) really means and says on the subject of arms rights. To get up to speed (or get refreshed) on this critically important subject, read 'A Few Words About The Second Amendment'.

“I didn’t say it would be easy, I just said it would be the truth.”

-Morpheus

Make someone you love sweat bullets this year...

(...and show them you think they're the greatest!)

I think we'd all agree that sometimes the truth can be a pesky thing-- demanding, disturbing, and seriously inconvenient.  The fact is, when you know the truth, you have to act on it, or be party to a lie; and when that lie is old, entrenched, vigorously defended and comfortingly familiar, the correcting truth can be very hard to learn, and even harder to act upon.

That's why one of the most challenging gifts to receive this holiday season is a copy of 'Cracking the Code- The Fascinating Truth About Taxation In America'.

Learning the truth about the income tax means setting aside misconceptions nurtured for a lifetime.  Acting on that truth means abandoning lifelong servility to the IRS-- the one organization whose carefully cultivated reputation as a rabid junkyard dog is feared by everyone in America.

Both of those things are really hard!

However, those very same challenges also make 'Cracking the Code-...' the most rewarding gift to get or give this holiday season.

After all, how better could you communicate to those you love the high degree of esteem in which you hold them?  How more certain of your high regard could they be made, after such a display of your faith in their character?

(Helping them stop unnecessary losses of up to 40% or more of their earnings each year goes over pretty well, too, by the way...)

So, pass out a little panic this year.

Then stand back and watch your special someone stand tall, like the real American he or she was born to be.

An Important New Enterprise Devoted To Real Journalism Is Launched

GLENN GREENWALD MAKES A MOST WELCOME ANNOUNCEMENT this week of the launch of the Freedom of the Press Foundation. This new organization is dedicated to the support of free and honest news dissemination in the face of state opposition and censorship.

Primary in the initiative's mission statement is counterbalancing outrageous efforts by the United States to thwart and harm real journalists like WikiLeaks in censorship of, and retaliation for, much-needed whistle-blowing revelations of heinous acts by that state and others. These attacks are made in pure defiance of the law and deep contempt for the people in whose name, and on whose authority, the state supposedly acts, and yet who it is desperate to keep in the dark.

Greenwald announces the new initiative here.

Perhaps if you write with the recommendation, this good group will add losthorizons.com-- the home of arguably the most significant whistle-blower in American history-- to the list of those benefitting from its attention and assistance. Contact the group here.

If You're Not Standing Up, Then You're Standing Down

..and "standing down" means "going down"

My friends, it has been my sincere belief that this community of activists has been encouraged, inspired, enlightened and expanded over the years by the steady posting here of your ongoing victories on behalf of the rule of law. Certainly, it has been my pride and my joy to help you share with the world your honorable testament to the liberating truth about the tax, widespread knowledge of which is so critical to the well-being of ourselves, our children, and our beloved America.

I am sad, therefore, to have to say that unless you all resume sending me those victories I will be obliged to stop posting them for the world to see-- simply for lack of material to work with! I hope that this will not happen. I hope that you will not allow the law-defiers to succeed in their corrupt effort to make this beacon "go dark" by having made me unavailable for a couple of years, or by frightening you into silence with what has been done to me.

The fact is, since I have returned to this desk, only a sparse handful of victories have been shared. So few, I'm afraid, that it will only be a matter of a few weeks-- if that-- before all those in the queue are posted. When that happens, this oh-so important offering of this site that I know has meant a great deal to each of you over all these years grinds to a halt. What a shame that would be!

It would be an especial shame because, of course, those victories have been steadily being won, even while I languished in durance vile. SOME, after all, continued to be sent over the entire time, and of course those posted recently include victories won as recently as a month ago. So, it would be a shame, because if this ongoing presentation of the most concrete and easily-demonstrated kind of evidence of the truth ceases, it will only be because this community has had some of the heart go out of it, and has sunk into the death spiral of, "Let somebody else do it-- I'll wait..."

Please don't let that be how it goes. Send those victories-- the new ones, and those of the last few years as well. Follow the link below to refresh yourself on how to do so.

Readers of 'Cracking the Code- The Fascinating Truth About Taxation In America' have taken control of their own resources, in accordance with, and respect for, the law. A few of these good American men and women are generous enough to share their victories in upholding the law, for the edification and inspiration of everyone. At the moment the shared refund checks, closing notices, and so forth total

THIS WEEK'S RECOMMENDED READING:

Why Remember Iraq?

by Philip Giraldi

Most Americans would prefer to forget that we are approaching the first anniversary of the expulsion of U.S. military forces from Iraq. The Republican Party, which rallied behind George W. Bush to invade the country and occupy it, has suffered from a short memory relating to that misbegotten war even as it agitates for new and similar military interventions. Much of the silence on the subject is certainly due to the fact that most Democrats and nearly all the media were also on board, though perhaps for reasons that did not completely coincide with the Bush neocons’ imperial vision. And after the war began and the occupation took on its misbegotten form under Jerry Bremer, Dan Senor, and a host of neocon acolytes brought on board to reshape the country, the saga ran on and on.

As Iraq broke down into its constituent parts due to Bremer’s inept proconsulship, a development that might normally lead to a rethink of the entire project, Pentagon-based neoconservatives instead regrouped, doubled down and contrived the 2007 “surge” to fix things. That the surge was a poorly conceived and executed military dead end and a complete failure to do anything but deepen the divisions within Iraq seemed irrelevant, political partisanship inevitably rushing in to interpret it as a success to provide cover for the foolish politicians, generals and bureaucrats in Washington who had conceived it. As recently as the Republican presidential debates earlier this year the “surge” in Iraq was cited by several candidates as a litmus test for those who believe in the “right kind” of foreign policy. Those who did not believe in the myth of the surge as a subset of American Exceptionalism were outside the pale, most notably Representative Ron Paul.

Aren't you glad that YOU'VE taken control of how much of YOUR WEALTH facilitates Washington's misbehavior?!

Even as ardent a statist as Abraham Lincoln, in announcing his willingness to burn the Southern states to the ground in order to keep them paying the tariff for the benefit of Northern interests in his first inaugural address on March 4, 1861, paid at least lip service to the Founders design of leaving control over the fuel available to feed the fires Washington wants to light in the hands of the individual citizenry when he said, "Doing this I deem to be only a simple duty on my part; and I shall perform it, unless my rightful masters, the American people, shall withhold the requisite means..."

Learning From Mistakes

A FEW DAYS AGO I FOUND MYSELF PRESENTED with yet another expression of misunderstanding of the "income tax". This misunderstanding is presented with great confidence and even the citation of a few relevant Supreme Court rulings which do, in fact, support the aspects of the contention for which they were used, thus lending the whole misunderstanding some undeserved credibility. (The at least one egregiously false excerpt/citation also included will likely be overlooked by most readers.)

Rather annoyingly, this elaborately-presented misunderstanding appears to be posted on a prominent newsgroup page, and is thus likely to be widely viewed. As a consequence, many folks will be misled as to the true nature of both the tax and the scam by which it is misapplied.

On the other hand, pointing out an error always involves explaining what is correct, and usually in a new way. Such new presentations often make the truth click where it hasn't made sense to someone before, and thus, even errors have their upside. With that in mind...

THE SUBSTANCE OF THIS PARTICULAR ERROR can be seen almost immediately in the long article. The second paragraph starts with a line that says it all: "We have all been led to believe that, "of course, my wages are "income," however, as you will soon discover, that is a lie."

After correctly pointing out that "income" doesn't mean "all that comes in", the article goes on to argue at length that pay for labor isn't profit, and companies get to deduct business expenses (including pay for labor) so why shouldn't the worker be able to treat his pay in the same fashion? This paragraph is a good summary of this argument: "Simple example. You make a wage. You pay all your expenses. You have some left over "principal," and you invest this in some means, and "derive" some interest from the extra money. THAT is what is lawful income. You are deriving NOTHING from your wages. It is the value of your labor, which costs money."

The arguments made here about the economics of pay for labor, and that the tax is essentially on derived gains, aren't necessarily unsound (up to a point). However, because the tax actually ISN'T LAID on mere "pay for labor" (whether as the writer imagines the tax to be written, or by what he imagines to be the scheme of its misapplication in defiance of how it is written), these accuracies are irrelevant to the subject of the true nature of the tax. Worse, observing them clouds the eyes of the writer and leads him to imagine that he is being taxed on what he calls his 'wages', and that therefore the tax is being laid in defiance of the law, logic, and the Constitution.

The big source of confusion here revolves around the word 'wages'. Seeing that what are called "wages" in the tax law are being deemed a measure of something taxable, this writer presumes that this means the tax is being laid on people simply for working, or being paid for their labor.

The writer doesn't understand that what are called "wages" in the tax law are not what he means when he uses the word. Grasping that simple point is the key to reconciling all that he observes about the tax with the endless pronouncements of the tax's Constitutionality by the courts over many decades (including many in which the judiciary was in no way party to obscuring the real nature of the tax).

When one grasps the fact that the things declared to be subject to the tax in the law are custom-defined-- some by explicit statutory specifications and all by context-- and why; and how this reveals that everything subject to the tax is distinguished from the larger class of such things (i.e.: working as a plumber where federal permission to do so is required versus working as a plumber generally), the true nature of the tax comes into clear focus. Among other things, it becomes clear that nothing unconstitutional is involved in the tax, as written.

When this key revelation comes into focus, it then becomes clear that the tax scheme is simply the default presumption by those administering the tax that all the products of all economic activity are of these custom-defined varieties, putting the onus of saying otherwise on the recipients of these products. This "opted-in-by-default" structure is obnoxious, to be sure. But it exists because the government wants to lay claim to every penny it can get its hands on, while not actually having the authority to lay claim to some part of every gain that occurs.

The tax DOES fall on "wages". But it falls only on the "wages" custom-defined as such in the tax law-- a special subclass of 'pay for labor' distinguished by a federal connection creating a legitimate federal interest in those particular gains (interest being used here in the sense of an "ownership interest" arising out of the United States being a part of the production of the gains, through the permission it gives for the work involved to be performed on its behalf and by the exercise of its authority).

THE WRITER OF THIS MISTAKEN ARTICLE IMAGINES that the tax is being applied to his undistinguished 'pay for labor' ('wages' as commonly-defined, rather than as defined in the tax law), but this is simply because he hasn't grasped the fact that "wages" IS custom-defined in the law. Or perhaps he simply refuses to grasp this fact because it is easier to blindly rail against a tax he doesn't think he owes, or should owe, than to learn how the tax actually works, discover how harmless it is, and how virtuous it is, when confined to its proper objects by educated Americans.

It's a shame either way. This fellow is articulate and energized. He COULD be spending his time and energy educating others about the true nature of the tax and helping roll us all back to the pre-1940s when the tax troubled no one improperly and most folks had no occasion to pay it the least attention...

IGNORANCE TAX: An unnecessary exaction suffered out of ignorance as to its lawful objects and the means of its application by someone too lazy, frightened or misled to learn how it really works and to what it really applies.  See "Income Tax", "Social Security Tax", "Medicare Tax" and "Federal Unemployment Tax".

Ever Wonder How Much An Unrestrained FedState Would Like To Tap You For?

The Independent Institute has put up a page that will help you figure it out. This good organization has posted a calculator that will take your level of education, age and annual earnings (forgive them for casually using the expression "income" in labeling that input field) and generate an amount of future tax burden you would be expected to pay if you hadn't taken control of your resources by learning the truth about the tax and acting on that knowledge. The calculator also helpfully lets you know how much that amount of money would be worth to you if conventionally invested, rather than being handed over to Uncle Sam to buy bullets, bail out banksters and build bridges to nowhere.

Here's a screenshot after I plugged in couple of numbers to sample the thing:

Find the calculator here. After you run it, you'll be more pleased than ever that you've taken control of how much of YOUR fuel gets consumed in the federal conflagration.

About The Author

Pete Hendrickson enjoys the distinction of being the first American in history to secure a complete refund of Social Security and Medicare ‘contributions’ withheld from his earnings (along with all other property taken for federal taxes).  He is far from the last, though-- readers of his seminal work, ‘Cracking the Code- The Fascinating Truth About Taxation In America’  and its just-published sequel, 'Was Grandpa Really a Moron?', have been doing the same ever since the book first appeared in 2003.

Hendrickson is also a widely-read essayist on matters of politics, public policy and law; many of these works are collected in his second book, ‘Upholding the Law And Other Observations’.  He is a member of Mensa; an award-winning artist; and has paid his dues as a youth soccer coach.  He is a long-time political activist as well, and has served as co-chair and platform convention delegate of Michigan’s largest county Libertarian Party organization; as a consultant to the National Right to Work Foundation and Citizens for a Sound Economy; as a member of the Heartland Institute; and as a member of the International Society for Individual Liberty.  He is a frequent radio-show guest on stations across the country.

Hendrickson's business career has included nearly a decade-and-a-half at the leading edge of the renewable-energy industry, both as Director of Purchasing and Materials Management and member of the R&D board at Starpak Energy Systems, the mid-west's then-largest solar heating and energy-recovery-and re-utilization company; and as founder and president of AFJ Inc., a high-efficiency lighting design, manufacture and installation firm.

Beginning in the mid-1990s and continuing for the twelve years before his present full-time focus on the restoration of the rule of law in America, Hendrickson directed purchasing activities for the $84 million-a-year multi-family-housing division of the Farmington Hills, Michigan branch of Edward Rose and Sons, with responsibility for 18,000+ apartments, direct supervision of 35 technicians and agents, and incidental authority over several hundred divisional workers.  He also ran the division's 10 cable television earth-station and distribution systems in four states, and designed and administered the company's website.

On rather the other end of the spectrum, amidst these more mundane pursuits Hendrickson co-founded and was the primary creative force behind a small board- and card-game company that enjoyed a modest success for several years.

Hendrickson makes his home in southeast Michigan, with his wife and two children.  He is currently working on his next book.
