Second time Around
Category: Poetry/LyricsAnd in the ennui
of a solitary Sunday
realization comes calling,
this is the beginning of how it is;
tentative.
Hindered by constraints
of children, career and distance.
Time shared
measured in hours
that long to become days.
A midweek lunch,
restaurant sparsely populated
and too much cabernet sauvignon.
An engineered afternoon,
spontaneity stifled,
expectation an unwanted bed-fellow.
Phone calls become sporadic,
the forced flame fades to the ash
of another lost opportunity.
This is how it is.
