Either I have lost many IQ points by travelling to Cambodia (which is entirely possible) or something weird is going on around here, or both.

I just can’t figure out what I have to do to post.
I’ll roam around some more, but I’ve been roaming around sporadically since I got back, and I still can’t figure out exactly what’s going on.  When I first found this site, I figured it out, so maybe it’s my IQ.  Sob.

Other people seem to be able to do it, so why can’t I post a submission?  Am I not voting enough?  Have I submitted too much already?  Not even clear on how to vote properly, anymore.

Is there some specific post by Dave that explains the changes?

Thanks for any help from anyone.
At least I can still post in the forums and make annoying comments!

Vote vote vote.  That’s what it’s all about.  I’m looking forward to your Cambodia stories.

(Back from trying to vote)

To me, it seems crazy to try to compare and rate a DRAWING or a photograph against a poem or a short story.  Is this really what is intended?  I don’t know how to do that.  I’ll think about it and make some kind of arbitrary ranking, just so I can post, but I don’t buy it.  Sorry, not meaning to be cranky.  It’s just that the criteria to do the ranking seem radically different.  I would post a long philosophical treatise on why this system is wrong-headed, but unfortunately I haven’t voted enough!

Crankily,
Julie

PS (Back again from pondering this.)  Let’s take “Spammer Attack” for example.  There’s nothing WRONG with it, but how do I get RID of it, just supposing, hypothetically, that I want to?  It’s last on my list, and the quick-rate doohicky says I can move it to 13th position, I think it is (lower than it currently is, anyway), but nothing happens when I try.  What if I like everything in my whole list but I absolutely HATE “Spammer Attack” (remember, this is hypothetical!)???  Getting rid of “Spammer Attack” should count as a vote, which would eventually enable me to submit… but I can’t get rid of “Spammer Attack”.

Now there may well be some way to (hypothetically) consign “Spammer Attack” to the flames, but I cannot figure out what it is.
I am still a friendly user, but I am not finding this system to be user-friendly.
Hmph.  Whinge, whine.

PPS (Back again from trying to get rid of “Spammer Attack”.)  Well, now I seem to have moved “Spammer Attack” down somewhat, but it’s still there.  Now I have an actual vendetta against “Spammer Attack”, and want to KILL IT.  Even though I only hypothetically wanted to kill it in the first place.  This is how wars start and innocent people and articles suffer.  ACK.

Well… good luck.

Just kidding!

If you rank something below the pink line, it is as if you haven’t ranked it.  Just move it up one and you’ll be able to rank more items.  I guess I should add a message box that explains this when the new item is left in last place.  Sorry for the confusion.  I hate spammers too.

OK I just tried posting something and have noticed something I thought I’d noticed before with other posts… which is that I can’t see the whole post.
Is there a length limit now?

Oh helllup hellllpity.

There’s always a length limit.  I’m not sure what it is.  If your post was cut off, it was cut off at the limit.  I believe the limit is 65,533 characters.

I can’t see that it’s my browser.  Really?  I’ve noticed this bit about not being able to see the end of the submission a few times lately, and it certainly has not always been true, because I distinctly remember accumulating some of these here grey hairs whilst attempting to read and scroll as fast as possilbe.  Everything else is more or less working at the moment.
Look here and tell me what happens:  http://www.litmocracy.com/weblog/phone/.... I can’t see the end.  It was good, too.  Helllup!!

If you reload it 5 times, does it always end (prematurely) at the same spot?  I get the whole thing.  Anyone else?

I suspect your network connection.

http://www.litmocracy.com/weblog/phone/... you can go there and see the end… nine times???

Just tried it with Firefox and I can now see the end.  What the hey?  Stupid IE.
Problem is Firebox doesn’t like half the stuff I use and IE doesn’t like the other half so I spend all my time restarting and
procrastinating about FDISK!!!!  AGHHHH.

I feel your pain. For nearly one month, or more… I could not post because I was short one or two votes. The problem was made worse by my not being able to read any posts because there was no “Recent Posts” selection button available. What a conundrum -a catch 22 real life endless circular malfunction. I almost gave up.

Then, another problem arose. After reading and voting on as many posts as possible, (because I too suffer a self-inflicted reading compulsion), my list is too long to peruse. My memory is not so good I can remember the qualitative essence of an essay, or a poem, or submission, by title alone. Sometimes a title does little to refresh it. Perhaps there should be a “remove this stuff as it has little chance of improvement” or a “Trash by Date” button somewhere.

Also, I was most irritated by the fact that after being off line for 9 months, when I returned, I could not access any archive(s).  But one day, and this is gospel… I replied to some blue-lined item link in an email sent by either Dave. or Don Eminizer, or somebody, and Viola! out of the blue, I was again able to read recent posts and vote. I went through a backlog of votable posts and zoomed from 300 points to 840 points, in one afternoon. That list thing proved annoying.

Oh, I am so glad someone else has felt my pain!  Empathy is what distinguishes us from the, um, fish.  Seriously.

There should be some way of categorizing things in order to better think about them.  Maybe individual voters could have their own inboxes for reviewing the categories they are most interested in and then the votes cast from each category could tally at the end.  I’m sure Dave won’t mind tweaking his website a bit more in order to stop these nag screens.

Cheers!
