To see what place your entry is in, hold the mouse over the ‘>>’ next to it in your ticket.

Thanks to tobiash for asking.

Dave,

If I’m wasting your time than I am terribly sorry. I consider myself to be a reasonable person, but nonetheless cannot deduce the solution to the proposed conundrum by your response. I am still fairly new to this, but my understanding is that one cannot vote on one’s own work,  and the only way to view one’s ticket is to vote on a piece. Is this true? How does one access the page with the “>>” mark? Furthermore, I understand that if I choose a particular piece to vote on I will be presented with random selections from the same category. However, I don’t see any poems on the front page (I’ve already voted on a few this month and I suppose that it is quite possible that I’ve already done all of them) and am primarily interested in that category. Is there any way to filter the selections? I don’t like science-fiction, and I would prefer to stay out of politics on this forum. Therefore I feel it is unfair for me to vote on these categories, as I will most likely place them at the bottom of my ticket. So to paraphrase, my questions are:

How do I view how my own entries are ranked?

How do I get them on my ticket, and why would they be there if I can’t vote on them?

How do I access my ticket without voting?

Can the entries directed towards me be filtered by category?

In addition, I take it that the initial forum posts attached to any given piece are randomly generated. This was unclear to me at first, and I’m pretty sure I made a snide remark to your system, which is embarassing! Sorry, but the questions seem kind of offensive!

Anyways, if you could provide a little help to the technologically disinclined it would be appreciated.

Thank You,

-B.

Ahh - you’ve made me realize that an important thing to let everyone know is that we have different categories of things to vote on - let’s call them races.  There’s a “Creative Writing” race and a “Nonfiction” race, and some others.  If you click the voting box on the front page, it will present your ticket for the race that the piece above it is in.

But you want the Creative Writing race, so…

How do I view how my own entries are ranked?

In the workshop section (the front page) there is a box at the top that says “Table of Contents”.  If you hold the mouse over it, more boxes will open up.  One of them is “Creative Writing,” and if you hold the mouse over that one, you’ll see another set of boxes, which include “Poetry Lyrics”.  All “Creative Writing” submissions are in the same “race”, so you can click on that box and you’ll see your ticket for that race - without having to vote.  There, you can find the “>>” to see what place you’re in.

Now that you know that there are different races, I think you’ll also realize that you must have seen your ticket for Nonfiction - that’s where most of the political stuff would be.

When you submit a piece, it automatically gets added to your ticket in first place - your ticket for the appropriate race.  Once you follow the instructions above, you’ll see your submission.

How do I access my ticket without voting?

Answered above.

Can the entries directed towards me be filtered by category?

Yes!  When you use the cascading Table of Contents from the top, you’ll see “Poetry/Lyrics” when you hold the mouse over “Creative Writing” - click “Poetry/Lyrics”, and the site will present you only with poetry and lyrics.  However…

Adding pieces to the bottom of your ticket because they are stories and not poems is fine.  It will cause us to publish a bit more poetry and a bit less prose.  You could still read a paragraph from each story and decide which one seems like the better story - to decide where on the bottom of your ticket it should go, and that info will help us find quality.  Adding something to your ticket isn’t an endorsement, it’s just a judgment of its quality relative to the other items on the ticket.  One of the ideas behind the site is to get people interested in a narrow kind of modern writing to examine other kinds in case they find something they like.

I believe you can edit the question and the post, and even delete your reply if you want.
