Badlands
Category: Poetry/LyricsThe stability of dirt
surprises the soles of our feet-
tough as leather belts
but cautious.
Perched, raptor-style on rounded peaks
we marvel
at the undulations, which
mirror the sunset,
layered like a jelly dessert.
The heat-coloured earth leaks its warmth
into twilight’s muted blue-
its ink-and-water cocktail.
The stars are too numerous,
too clear.
They sting dry eyes
and burn dry throats,
distorting the danger
of falling.

I like this. Free flowing and a bit raw, emotionally. I’ll have some more please.
