  • I think it might be good to take $15 from the short fiction & $25 from the suggestion prize amount & spread it around, though I do believe the author awards should be slightly more than the ranking awards. Perhaps $10 per week could go to the voter that ranks the most categories, or ranks the most correct positions or something along those lines.

I decided on the award sizes based on my perception of which categories might be lacking in posts.  Now I’m wondering if that’s necessary.  Fewer posts means it’s easier to win, which I think is motivation enough.  On the face of it, posting to any one of the categories takes just as much work as posting to any other, so I think I’ll even all the prizes out to $25 - that’s $100 to authors.

That leaves $75 for ranking work.  So we’ll award $10 each to the five people making the most decisions in whichever category has the fewest voters and $25 to the Ranking Award winner as before.  That’s a bit complicated, so let me explain:

The ranking statistics for each category show how many decisions were made by each of the top 25 voters.  If there are more than 25, it’ll also show how many voters there are for that category.  Whichever category has the fewest voters will earn the top five voters (by number of decisions) $10 each.  The last $25 will go to whoever ranked the winner above the runner-up first.

This pays well for ranking work, and since entries that have fallen to the second page are not represented in the list, voters are encouraged to come back and add new entries to their list in order to maintain their number of decisions.
