The All-Seeing Eye

Category: Issue 5, Poetry/Lyrics Winners

Wave goodbye
The land that used to be
Wave goodbye to cherished dreams
And hopes of being free
With cameras on the corner
And more cameras in the sky
Some bureaucrat behind a desk
Can watch you wave goodbye

Wave goodbye to privacy
Like Winston
You will know
That someone will be watching you
Everywhere you go
Obedience will be enforced
Dissent will be denied
A wet dream for a tyrant
There’ll be no place left to hide

The ultimate in crowd control
We’ll all be safe at last
And those who dream of freedom
Are just living in the past
Technology will save us
Technology is king
He knows if you’ve been bad or good
He’s watching everything

  • I agree that our freedoms are slowly being bled away, but I like to think that… umm…

Gee, maybe I should reconsider.  I know that legally there’s no way that our rulers will be able to stop dissent, but with the increase in watching, and the increase in government power, and the decrease in our rulers observance of the fundamental principles of freedom, stopping dissent gets easier and easier for them, eh?

But I cannot pin this on technology.  In fact, I think technology might enable us non-rulers to provide dissent and even disobey without suffering the consequences our rulers use to stop us.
