Venezia
Striped shirt and bronzed face,
For gondoliers there is no race.
They simply row and lightly float
Upon their lengthy blackened boat.
Watching couples
Sitting staring,
Hugging sharing
Kissing caring—
Gondolier
Is happy rowing,
Lovers glowing
Sunset showing.
He that knows
Their secrets whispered—
There he rows,
Hands freshly blistered.
Round the oar goes,
Year by year.
Simply, lightly—
Gondolier.
