Val McDermid Claims the CWA Cartier Diamond Dagger Award (2010)

The Crime Writers’ Association (CWA) of the United Kingdom has announced famous crime author Val McDermid as the winner of this year’s CWA Cartier Diamond Dagger Award. She has been awarded in recognition for her 20 plus years of producing quality crime fiction.

Born in Scotland, Val McDermid has authored 23 bestselling novels, selling over 10 million copies worldwide and seeing her works translated in 40 languages. She came to the limelight with her 1995 bestselling crime novel The Mermaids Sing, claiming the CWA Gold Dagger Award. Among her many international awards are the Los Angeles Times Book of the Year Award and The Stonewall Writer of the Year Award. Those listening to BBC Radio 4 are most likely to be familiar with Val as she regularly broadcasts on the channel.

Expressing delight over the award, 54 years old Val assured her readers that she still had ‘many mountains to climb’. Next month (February, 2010), Little, Brown Book Group is publishing the paperback of Val’s bestselling hardback Fever of the Bone.
