Looking for a literary agent?

Unpublished book authors who are looking for agents suffer from competition.  Low quality literary agents take advantage of this by preying on new writers who are full of confidence and trust.  Litmocracy aims to alleviate this suffering by providing a more direct and ccoperative form of competition.  I believe this will attract the attention of literary agents who can use Litmocracy to identify books or authors that interest them.

My plan is to create two categories for unpublished books, proposals (or abstracts?) and books.  Voting in the categories will be restricted to authors who can provide an abstract of their book.  The abstracts Litmocracy receives will be placed into both categories.  Authors will read each other’s abstracts and vote on them in the proposal category.  They can also contact each other with a request for a review copy.  After reading some or all of the review copy, an author can vote in the books category.

This scheme is intended to produce a list authors can use to see what others think would make good books, as well as a list of the same items that can be used by agents and publishers to find unpublished books that authors agree are good.  The public availability of the lists and their quality-based order is the key ingredient that ought to show publishers and agents the value of our system.

If you have constructive criticism or just want to tell me to get my butt in gear on this project, please contribute to the discussion.

Looking for feedback?

If you would like to encourage others to discuss your submission to the site, use the FORUM tab on the publish page.  This will cause a “Discuss” link to be added to the bottom of your piece.  It also creates a forum post whose title links back to your submission.

The publish page is now part of the control panel.  When you submit your piece, you can click over to the FORUM tab before pressing the “Submit” button.  Your post will not be lost - it just moves down on the page to make room for the “Forum topic”.  In the forum topic, ask readers any questions you have about your piece, or just describe what you wanted to accomplish.

For members with submissions already on the site:
First, visit the Submission Discussion forum and post a new topic in which you ask for readers responses to your submission.  After you submit it, take note of the number at the end of the URL for your new topic.  This number is the “forum topic id” and provides a way to connect the topic to your submission.

Next, use the “Your Control Panel” link at the top to get to the control panel.  In the control panel, click the EDIT tab and then find your submission and click it.  Finally, click over to the FORUM tab there and enter the forum topic id into the Forum Topic ID box.  Submit that baby and you’re all set!

Where did it go?

I recenty made some big changes to the site and some members chastised me for not warning you all.  Please accept my apologies for it.  I promise to announce disruptive changes before making them in the future.  Hopefully, I can make the transition a lot smoother.

The big questions some of you might have are about old comments and forums.  Where did they go?  Here are brief instructions to access the old forums and the old comments:

To visit the old comments about a submission, use the search box in the sidebar to find the submission.  The link from the search results takes you to the old comments page.  If you’d like to add a comment for potential inclusion in Literal Translations, this is the place to do it.  The new Submission Discussion forum is for more interactive comments - along the lines of proposed edits or just shooting the breeze.

To visit the old forums, the URL is http://litmocracy.com/forum/ (notice there is no S).  There is also a link to the old forums in the General Discussion area of the new forums.  It is no longer possible to log into the old forums because they’ve been replaced with the new ones.  I’m leaving them up for reference.  If anyone wants to copy any of the posts to the new forums, you are welcome to do so.
