Issue 5 coming soon
Another three months have almost finished rolling by and I am once again scrambling to get the best material into the next issue. I’ve recently made it easier to order a hardcopy of the magazine for those who would like to support Litmocracy that way. Issue 5 will go to the printer on March 17th.
The banner ad is gone…
Google has kicked Litmocracy out of the Adsense program. This means that Google ads will no longer be displayed at Litmocracy. In fact, Google has requested that I NEVER try to earn advertising revenue from the Adsense program again. Why?
I have a copy of the website running on my laptop, and I am the only who ever visits that copy. It’s there so I can make and test changes before putting them on the production website. The Google ads were being displayed on this development website, and I assume this is what pissed them off. So I’m looking for another online advertising marketplace. If you have any ideas, please send them my way.
Writers’ Circle
Litmocracy has a Writers’ Circle led by StarLizard. The circle provides a culture centered more on feedback and cooperation and less on competition. Submissions to the circle are open, but they are intended to be works in progress that can be improved through constructive feedback. If you’d like to participate in the circle, here’s the URL.
Agent Query
Don Eminizer and I have produced the following query to be sent to agents. The goal of the query is not to give away as many magazines as possible, but to give them away only to quality literary agents who will appreciate the way we find and maintain quality. Obviously any suggestions about improving the effectiveness of this query will benefit everyone here, so please check it out. Here’s the query:
As a high-quality literary agency you must receive more material than you can handle, and I bet a majority of it is a waste of your precious time. Of course you need to find new writers to increase your business, but is it worth it if you have to slog through 100 manuscripts to get to one sellable quality project? The solution is to filter these aspiring writers in a way that lets through only the best work that readers themselves would like. My website is just such a filter. It requires aspiring writers to be judged by readers who decide what submissions are the best. These judgments are used to find submissions that have mass appeal.
There are other less efficient websites that also get writers to judge each others material. I have not seen one that uses a mechanism like mine. I would love to explain it in detail, but I don’t want to take up too much of your time if you aren’t interested. If you’d care to check out my website in the meantime, the URL is www.litmocracy.com. Also, if you like, I’ll send you a hard copy of Literal Translations, my literary magazine. It reflects the tastes of the readers rather than an editor. I will gladly send you a copy if you like.
