Hi Dave,
Firstly I’d like to say how pleased I am to have my work accepted for your magazine, right that’s the grovelling out of the way! Now, as requested a little more about me. I’m 50 years old and live in a small town about 18 miles north of Liverppol, England. I only came to writing seriously 3 yrs ago after illness forced me to take early retirement from the police service. Finding myself at a loose end I enrolled on a creative wring course at my local adult college. One of the modules on the course was poetry and the more I learned about the technical aspects of the craft the more I became engrossed in the whole genre. I still consider myself to be on a steep learning curve but I have had some success, I’ve had work published in several small press magazines and a couple of minor competion wins and a number of poems shortlisted in other competitions. Most of my work deals with personal relationships and people on the margins of society as I feel they are subjects that bring out the strongest emmotions. Whenever I’m faced with that blank page or Word documentI take my inspiration from the late Liverpool poet/artist Adrian Henri who adopted the Mantra, ‘If you think you can do it and you want to do it, then do it!’ Another favourite quote I heard but can’t for the life of me remember who said it is,‘A poem is a crossword puzzle for the soul’ and for me that’s what it’s all about.
