Did following the rules seem to help or hinder this?

The rules were to mention ‘cowboy hat’ and ‘palm tree’, and not to mention a couple of other things.  I really like this story, and wonder about the rules - how serious are they?

I never even saw the rules, just December satire, so I wrote a satire, It’s a nice story. If it gets yanked from the contest I guess it could just go in the general fiction section. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

I’m not sure there should be any rules. Why would mentioning a cowboy hat make the story any better?It’s enough to write a satire rather than trying to write around some strange phrase or image. My opinion anyway.
