Ahoy,
Whale, it’s been awhile since I spoke to all my beloved litmock writers, readers and voters, but it is time. Indeed, it’s time. First, hope those in America had a Happy Memorial Day! To the rest of you, I hope you had a great weekend wherever you might have been. I have come to find that every day, even the worst ones, are worth celebrating, and I’ve had my share of pure joy and sorrow for the past several months, but enough of all that for now. Onto Litmock news, and big stuff at that. The Barb Terry book I co-authored, How Athletes Roll, is done and is on sale, and she’s already been booked on a ton of radio and television shows to promote it, from local television to GMA, to Today, to Letterman and even The Howard Stern Show.
This is the first of a number of projects I and Dave have worked on to build a profile for Litmock that has come to fruition, and we will all benefit and be involved from this and several other projects coming up that I believe have legs. A lot of what I’ve endured this past year I can’t discuss for reasons that could be problematic before my situation is settled, but rest assured, there are two projects I believe that can be pretty huge if and when they are completed, and two that will be socially relevant. A couple of these I will address in the next few newsletters. But back to How Athletes Roll.
The first book signing featured pro bowl Dallas Cowboy Ed “Too Tall” Jones, 17 time World Heavyweight Pro Wrestling Champ Ric Flair, and former Olympian Gold Medalist Dan Jansen. Here are the details.
The first official television blurb occurred on a regular Houston show that she does, it’s a few minutes long and you can view it here. It’s the beginning to a long list of publicity stops she will make, and in many large cities the 40 pro athletes in the book, from Mike Strahan to Sugar Ray Leonard, have pledged to do book signings and promote the book with her. Distribution is global. Barnes and Noble will be stocking the book any day, and of course it can be ordered on Amazon. Info on the book can be found here, though all media appearances are not up to date.
Also, the Pro Athlete Counsel that Dave and I are charter members of had a successful event in Charlotte last week, its first solo event, with a number of pro athletes, including founder Mike Barber and Barb, who is a new member, so it’s all starting to grow. It’s taken several years to get this far and hopefully, there’s still a long, long way to go, but I’m proud of the effort and the outcome thus far. Wish I could have attended, I really do, but I will have pictures for the next newsletter.
Oh, and Dave wanted you all to know about this contest. Looks good to me. All I know, is that if I didn’t enter a contest to name this site and win some money writing about 6 odd years ago, I wouldn’t be happy to announce the publication of How Athlete’s Roll, I wouldn’t have met the love of my life, wouldn’t have these other projects I’m excited about, and certainly wouldn’t have found the Cajones or the means to pursue my dream and become a full time writer. If I can get the rest of my situation settled and in order, who knows, maybe that dream grows and helps us all, and I end up being where I wanted to be in the beginning.
Worth a shot I suppose.
Take care,
Don
P.S. In the next week or so, we’ll start accepting submissions for issue 18 that goes to the printer on the 17th, but they need some time to get voted on in order to get in, so if you’ve got material, let’s see it. The voting requirements for posting have been suspended so it’s easier for you, but the voting still helps a lot, so enjoy reading and voting too! And don’t forget, people like feedback.—Dave
