What I can do, I should do and, with the help of God, I will do." -Everett Hale (...and every other person who ever really deserved liberty) Cutting Some Kool-Aid A brief look at a will-o'-the-wisp currently polluting cyberspace THE INTERNET IS THICK WITH VARIOUS FLAVORS OF "KOOL-AID" brewed by snake-oil salesmen hoping to capitalize on fear and confusion in certain sectors of the population. I neither purport nor aspire to be a general "Kool-Aid Cop", and so leave the vast majority of the nonsense on the net unremarked upon. But I do feel compelled to address fantasies that find their way into the "tax honesty" community, a sector of interest into which many imagine CtC to fall in some respects. Because of that perceived relationship, bizarre notions that arise among folks who are not CtC-educated but who nonetheless proclaim themselves to be "tax honesty" activists threaten to smear CtC by association in the eyes of the wider population. RIGHT NOW, AN OLD AND VERY MOLDY ZOMBIE NOTION is lumbering about the virtual landscape. This is the hoary nonsense sometimes called "the birth certificate/legal name fraud" and sometimes referred to as "redemption" or "redemption theory". Perhaps because this nonsense claims to explain aspects of the income tax scheme which are understandably confusing to anyone not CtC-educated, or maybe only because agents-provocateur put it out there with great vigor and creativity for its damaging effect as sand in some people's mental gearboxes, it is circulating among some "tax honesty" folks. The convoluted theorizing, assertions and conclusions involved with this dead chestnut are almost too much to unravel without writing another book to do so, and I'm not going waste my time or yours doing so. It should be enough to observe that part of this nonsense rests on the assertion that every birth certificate is actually a "bill of sale" (or indenturing instrument) by which naive parents and/or conniving hospital personnel are said to be enslaving newborn children to [variously] the Queen of England or some tax authority somewhere. Hearing that alone should be enough to direct anyone and everyone to the door. Here is how this is explained on one of the frighteningly-large number of websites set up by the State and its useful idiots to pump this lunacy into circulation: "When a child is born, a document is prepared which is an authorization to produce a Certificate of Live Birth. The parents and/or the doctor are given an application which is ultimately a commercial contract. They will endorse as to their witnessing the creation of both the child, and a commercial document. The document created at birth is an application for a Federal Certificate of Live Birth, it is evidence that there has been a commercial contract set up. This contract establishes the freeborn child to a status of "ward of the state". In a few weeks, the actual Certificate of Live Birth, which was based on the application, is handed over to and filed in Washington D.C. The Certificate of Live Birth is a bonded instrument. On the reverse of the certificate is a single letter (A-N) followed by eight numbers. In recent times the same serial number of the bond is stamped on the back of a Social Security Card. ... ...At the time of registration, the Corporation of the United States, through its Treasury Department creates a bond. This bond is also known by the human's name in capital letters. A strawman is created to be used in all legal, and financial matters. More on this later The bond number itself can be found on the actual Certificate of Live Birth, on the back of the document. Once the county birth record is received by the federal government, the bond is created. Once both of these actions occur, the federal government releases the Certificate of Live Birth announcing the creation of a new revenue source. The value of the bond is based on the power of the state to tax the future wealth, and property, of the human being named on the document. There have been some prints of Individual Master Files (IMF) that show the bond placed on the newborn having a value of around $650.000 (sic) dollars. There is a catch however. Any profit which is created by the investment during the life, right up to the death of the individual, of every living, breathing, male or female, remains the property of the state. All property is considered to be owned by the Corporation of the United States. This is easily seen by the seizures without Due Process which occur daily." As I said, just this bat-sh*t crazy gibberish alone should be enough to drive anyone back into the sunlight. But because those who have already drunk this Kool-Aid and can't find the door on their own shouldn't be abandoned to their fate without an effort to help, here are two things that can be pointed-out by the generous. Integral to this crazy "birth certificate/legal name" notion are two propositions. One is that upon birth a legal fiction called a "strawman" is created, which is the entity dealt with in all governmental relations concerning the individual. This "strawman" (goes the story) is distinguished by its name always being rendered in all capital letters. Here is how this is put: "Bureau of Vital Statistics in the state that the baby is born. When a child is registered it is registered into international commerce. At the time that the birth certificate is registered, Something else is created, a separate legal entity almost like a Doppelganger on paper. This alter ego is YOUR NAME IN CAPITAL LETTERS, also known as your strawman. This straw man holds all titles while the free born you has limited rights to use things, like your body, or your supposed possessions and land. When your strawman breaks a law or violates a statute, like a traffic ticket the free born flesh and blood you has to appear at the arraignment. It is there that you are asked to accept the strawman's credit. This is so the real live you can provide the "energy "surety" that is due in the way of fines and fees acquired while using the strawman." But of course all governmental relations with people are NOT distinguished by the use of names in all capital letters. Demonstrating that simple fact to the Kool-Aid inebriated should sober them up. Click here to do so. The other proposition is that everything "legal" in America is all wrapped up in the "Uniform Commercial Code". Again, our sample website: "The United States Of America has been completely bankrupt since 1933. The Constitution requires the government to hold gold and silver as assets. The only actual asset left to the United States is its population. How does the country cover the costs of operation of the country? What did the government come up with as a solution to this problem? Collateralize the population for credit. How is this done? The people are registered in International Commerce, and the government sells bonds on them. The population becomes the security on the bond itself. The surety is the labor of the people which becomes payable as (sic) an undetermined future date. This makes the people the "utility for the "transmission of energy (sic). This results in a very sophisticated form of slavery. The Constitution does not apply because the government, at every level becomes a part of international commerce, this falls under the Uniform Commercial Code in which animals, in other words, humans and their offspring yet to be born become goods which are able to be sold in commerce." But as even the author of this website rather bizarrely acknowledges, the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) was only enacted in 1952. Not only does that leave 19 years between that enactment and the alleged total bankruptcy of the United States an unexplained success in limping along without the UCC, but it also raises the question of how it is that all those pre-1952 tax collections, legal fees, fines, and so forth were brought to bear. Plainly there was a perfectly functional, complete governmental and commercial apparatus long antedating the UCC. To suggest that the UCC is anything but the making-uniform of what had been a multitude of varying laws regarding commercial transactions that it is, and instead is some nefarious fountainhead of modern bureaucratic evil is absurd. It IS true that the rules of the UCC are those by which all modern bureaucratic evil which happens to concern debt collection is conducted. But the UCC is not the source or the authority. It's just a set of rules for doing today what has been going on since the first economic actors had their first disagreement 50,000 or 5,000,000 years ago. OF COURSE, WHETHER SOMEONE DRINKS THIS UCC/BIRTH CERTIFICATE/ALL-CAP NAME KOOL-AID is outside my control or yours, and just as the poor will always be with us, so, too, will fools. But having this sort of thing worm its way into "tax honesty" newsgroups and emails, as it periodically does is harmful to everyone, and I urge everyone to debunk and denounce this stuff even more vigorously than it is promoted. Briefly Mentioned HAVE YOU EVER HEARD ANYONE SUGGEST THAT filing an educated return involves improperly making "conclusions of law"? This notion has been injected into circulation in order to hinder or discourage educated filings, with the sly argument that an affidavit like a tax return is invalid (and thus "frivolous") if it contains or asserts legal conclusions (as opposed to mere testimonial declarations of fact). But first of all, the attestation on a return is as to the sincerity of one's effort to comply with the law by way of the return, not as to some objective legal correctness of what one has concluded and reported on the form. Second, educated returns contain no legal conclusions, anyway. When one is asked to report the number of apples one has, is it making or expressing a "legal conclusion" to exclude one's oranges from the report? Don't Keep A Bushel Over Your Candle!! I HAD A CONVERSATION THE OTHER DAY with a warrior still waiting for his first victory, and who is instead being put through an obnoxious stall-and-distract "frivolous" routine (along with his warrior wife). This recently-retired professional man has done everything to comprehensively uphold the law, even going back as far as possible to correct his business filings as well as his personal ones, but so far with no joy. My correspondent had suing on his mind, and wisely so-- the stall-and-distract "frivolous" assertions are calculated to occupy their target while the two-year window to launch a suit to compel the issuance of a thus-far unmade refund closes, and these folks aren't going to get foiled by that cheap ploy. So, I encouraged my friend to proceed, with all possible dispatch. At the same time, though, and more vehemently still, I urged this good man to another, parallel activity which I think even more virtuous, since it offers direct benefit to everyone: WRITING UP HIS STORY FOR PUBLICATION!! Thinking about what this wonderful couple has been put through, I was struck hard by how compelling their story is as evidence of the truth about the tax-- just as is the story of every carefully-scrupulous educated filer and claimant whose claims are being evaded with the manifestly inapt, obviously-dodgy "frivolous" bs. I was also struck by the realization that those who have been victimized by this run-around don't understand the power of their stories! My correspondent said as much to me when I brought up the idea of him writing up his story for his local paper, and/or posting in one place or another on the internet; his initial response was that, 1. He HAD thought about writing it up, but as a book; and 2. He didn't want to write it up until he had gotten a favorable resolution of the matter, thinking that only then would it be a virtuous story to tell. No, no, NO! Both of these notions-- that the whole tale could fill a book, and that it is desirable to be able to report a victory at the end of the story-- are understandable. But both overlook the very important facts that a 1500-word article will get read, while a book might not; a 1500-word article will get written, while a book might never be (and in any event, won't get written and out there NOW, while the need is immediate and high); and the story of illegitimate resistance to a CtC-educated claim is just as powerful an educational tool as a victory-- maybe even more powerful. I ask you all, would the civil-rights movement have gotten the attention it did if the only people who ever told their stories were those NOT subjected to manifest abuse? If Rosa Parks' story had been, "Well, a white guy came on board and demanded that I give up my seat in the front of the bus to him. I refused, and he gave up and went to the back himself," do you think her experience would have inspired anyone to pay attention? More to the point here, evasions are evidence of truths-- just as much so as are admissions or capitulations. Those of you who are attentive will have noted that while most of the EWWBL episodes I post end up as victories, I also post those that are not-- because an unfounded or transparently-evasive dodge by the government is just as much evidence of what the law actually requires as is a surrender to that requirement. When you can show your opponent doing the equivalent of muttering, "Yeah, THAT's the ticket...!" you are showing that he's lying. When you show that he's lying, you are showing that the truth is not on his side, and IS on your side. I REALIZE THAT EXPLAINING HOW THE STATE'S AGENTS ARE LYING is not as easy as simply announcing a victory. But it IS just as compelling to those we need to reach, and in some ways, more so. Despite its ever-increasing ludicrousness, there are still some who cling to the feeble "denial" notion that CtC victories are just a [ten years long, tens of thousands of occasion] "slip through the cracks". These folks convince themselves that CtC-educated victories don't happen because they should, but only happen by accident. But that "it's all been a big mistake" notion, even as deeply delusional as those who resort to it are willing to be, can find no traction when facing demonstrable outside-the-law behavior by the state in response to CtC-educated claims. No one can argue that gimmicked "frivolous" notices making fake and deliberately incorrect references to statutory language, for example, are "slips through the cracks"! SO, HERE'S THE THING, PEOPLE: This community really needs to become a very vocal, very widely-published community of revelatory voices-- RIGHT NOW. Every one of you needs to get busy bearing witness to the truth-- trumpeting your victories and denouncing any and all law-defying, truth-revealing evasion of the truth by its enemies. As I counseled my correspondent the other day, every one of us must write our 1500-word testimonials. Write them for consumption NOT by me or by the CtC-educated, but for reading (or watching-- video stories, even just of you reading or telling your story are great) by those not yet equipped with the liberating truth about the tax. Get them out there-- in your hometown paper, your newsgroups, your chatrooms and your blogs. Email them around, and copy me, please. The ice is breaking, because lies only hold up until the weight of the truth becomes too much for them, but it has a way of hardening back up if the pressure upon it doesn't grow. If all you've had are victories, sing them out! If you've had resistance, sing that out, just as loudly. Use the resources on this site. You don't have to analyze any evasions to which you might have occasion to refer-- just describe them with an eye to pointing out that they are unmistakably knowing and deliberate, and provide the URL at which they can be read about here as the means for explaining how they are manifestly contrary to the law. Understand that EVERY state reaction to CtC IS A RESOURCE on behalf of communicating and emphasizing the liberating truth. But only if you put it out there... Care to post a comment on this article?

What Makes YOU A Warrior For The Truth? We each have our reasons, and our story. It's time, and it's needed, for you to share yours with the world. What does it for you?
Is it simply because no moral and upstanding person has any choice when it comes to telling the truth over his or her signature, whether on tax forms or anywhere else?
Is it recognition of the critical importance of the rule of law, and the knowledge that if everybody leaves its caretaking to someone else, it will soon be lost to us completely?
Is it the money?
Maybe it's just simple respect for your own rights as a human being, who is not and cannot be not involuntarily subordinated to others?
Maybe it's just simple respect for your general civic responsibility to be the grown-up and enforce frugality and restraint on a big, powerful creature of our own devising which otherwise is like a badly-raised teenage boy given whiskey and car keys and let loose on the road to wreak havoc?
Or is it, perhaps, a more acute anxiety that if our bonfire of a state isn't damped, and quickly, it'll soon burn down the house around us all?
What IS it that firms up your jaw and stiffens your resolve?
It's time to take off the bushel and share your light!
I would like you to think about what it is that motivates you for a few moments (or all day, if you like), and then send me your thoughts. I want to put YOUR reasons to work inspiring folks who don't yet understand what this is all about.
In this day and age, the most effective way for you to share your thinking for the benefit of others is to video-record yourself talking about how you feel, and explaining what inspires and motivates YOU.
All you need is a webcam or cell-phone equipped with a camera. If you don't have, or know how to use, one of these, have a friend help.
If needed, write a little script for yourself. Better, though, to just speak extemporaneously, after spending a little time sorting out your thoughts and getting down into your heart. Perhaps make it a video of someone in your family, or a close friend, interviewing you.
Keep yourself to no more than 2 or 3 minutes, and keep in mind that the purpose is not to educate, but to INSPIRE, ENCOURAGE and ENERGIZE. Your video will be one of many to be shared.
You needn't feel any obligation to be profound, and you shouldn't try to explain anything about the law, other than to say that you have read it and you know it's on your side. You just need to be sincere, and uplifting. Your object is to make your audience want to have what you have, and to be where you are in your heart.
Keep in mind that you're speaking to an audience that doesn't yet know ANYTHING about the subject, and whose first reaction is, "This must be illegal; this must be dangerous; this is too good to be true." You want to pull that audience right past such things, and straight to a focus on truth, morality, and our American heritage of liberty and the rule of law.
Remember: INSPIRE, ENCOURAGE, ENERGIZE.
Speak about rights. Speak about morality, and the obligation of a grown-up and responsible person to speak the truth and to enforce the Constitution. Speak about everyone's duty to give to God what is God's, always, and to Caesar only what is really Caesar's. Speak of your obligation to respect yourself, and to look out for the current and future well-being of your children and your fellow citizens.
If you have had victories, describe them. Better still, show them, if possible.
Be clear about just what you accomplished: EVERYTHING back-- Social Security, Medicare and all; a "notice of deficiency" closing notice; an on-paper agreement or acknowledgment that your earnings weren't subject to the tax and everything withheld or paid-in was an "overpayment"; a transcript showing all $0s; or whatever happened.
When you speak of state victories, name the state. If you had to overcome balkiness from a tax agency before winning any victory, describe that, too!
Remember, your purpose is to INSPIRE, ENCOURAGE and ENERGIZE.
If you're dealing with ongoing balkiness, describe that, too, if you wish-- but be sure to explain why you're not discouraged, and why you are not standing down, not slinking back into the barn, and not choosing to endorse the lies.
Mention what you do for a living, whether you're a doctor, homemaker, lawyer, trucker, IT guy or gal, or a retiree or student. Help people understand that the company of grown-up activist Americans they are being invited to join cuts across all demographics and all interests-- with the common denominator being respect for the law and love of the principles on which this great country was founded.
This is your chance to get a LOT accomplished.
We've all had frustrating occasions of trying to explain all this to a friend, neighbor, family member or co-worker, only to pile up against the wall of a mind not yet ready to listen and learn. Here is your chance to address a self-selected audience of folks who have themselves decided that it's time for them to begin paying attention, and have clicked on your testimonial for exactly that reason.
So, please make and send those videos right away! The restoration of institutional respect for individual rights and the rule of law depends on enough individuals insisting upon it. Do your part to let those starting to rub the sleep from their eyes know that there is a community already waiting for their fellowship with open arms and open hearts and shining spirits.

Snowshoes For Texas THERE'S NOTHING FUNNY ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED IN FERGUSON, MISSOURI to Michael Brown, or what has been happening to the people of that community engaged in righteous-- and astonishingly non-violent-- protests over Brown's murder. The only proper application of "funny" to the situation is in the sense of "peculiar" in reference to excuses offered by those struggling to minimize public consideration of the police-state preparations this incident is bringing to light. For instance, I've seen it suggested that the possibility that Brown might have committed a robbery earlier in the day legitimizes his being executed in the street by a cop (even if the cop had known about the robbery allegation, which he did not). Anyone offering this rationale reveals him or herself to be completely insane, and deserving of immediate loss of any position of trust or responsibility. So, don't get me wrong. There is nothing humorous about the Ferguson situation. But that said, turning the light of irony onto the program by which the Ferguson police have been tricked-out as a militarized adder lurking in the People's house is useful. Irony can often open a cognitive path to the heart of a defective policy otherwise too massive, convoluted and hedged about by defensive lies to be readily taken-in. Thus, while I urge everyone to make this the focus of their serious efforts against the spear whose tip we are seeing in Ferguson, I nonetheless want to share the following commentary on the program by which military equipment is being distributed to places like the Ferguson PD (and a constant demand for more government purchases from armaments manufacturers is being sustained): Snowshoes For Texas? The Most Bizarre Things The Pentagon Gave Police by Mark Strauss Using data obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, Government Executive magazine looked at the type and cost of equipment that police departments received from the Defense Department since 2006. If you think the items couldn't be crazier than what you've read about already, think again. The entire article is worth reading in full, but here are some highlights: 92 pairs of "SNOWSHOES" for a total cost of $6,191.60. El Paso County, Texas. Several counties received snowshoes from the Pentagon excess equipment (including counties in Idaho, Montana and Illinois), but no county's receipt of snowshoes needs a second look more than El Paso County, Texas. While El Paso does get some snow because of its elevation, the county has a median snow measurement of 0 inches, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The likelihood of a need for law enforcement to wear snowshoes is low. 18 units of "HAMMER, HAND" for a total cost of $2,683.86. Oakland County, Michigan. Oakland County is part of the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn, MI, Metropolitan Statistical Area and has a population of 1,202,362, but that does not explain why the local law enforcement needed to receive 18 hammers from the Defense Department at an average cost of $149.10 each. Considering Sears sells a Craftsman hammer for a quarter of the same price, it seems cost-prohibitive that the Pentagon is buying hammers at such a price in the first place. 240 pair of "DRAWERS, EXTREME COLD WEATHER" for a total cost of $1,770.65. San Diego County, California. The documentation on just where the equipment goes is not clear, so a lot of the equipment could be used in county jails, by county or city law enforcement or any other number of places. But one thing's for sure: Almost no one in San Diego County, California, needs underwear for "extreme cold weather." San Diego is one of the most pleasant places in the world, weather-wise, with a year-round average temperature of 75 degrees. Continued... Click here for the rest of this article Also In The News... THIS IS HOW THE BREAKDOWN HAPPENS, PEOPLE. Reporting on Eric Holder's announcement of the initiation of a criminal investigation, McClatchy-Tribune declares in an article appearing Friday in the Detroit Free Press that: "Federal officials have jurisdiction in the case because Foley was an American citizen." McClatchy-Tribune WRONG! With all due respect for the family of James Foley, and with all heartfelt wishes that everyone responsible for what was done to him face justice, the federal government does NOT have jurisdiction over his murder. McClatchy, which likely just parroted without question or challenge (or the least bit of independent research) what it was told by some government flack, does a great disservice to the rule of law in making this incorrect, Leviathan-serving assertion. Police power jurisdiction is territorial; it does not attach to citizenship. Even someone completely unschooled in the law would understand this just from observation: Does the FBI (or any other organ of the United States) launch an investigation whenever an American living in Paris has his apartment burgaled? Or his pocket picked? Or is murdered, for that matter? Of course not. Not only does the federal government have no police power in Paris or Iraq, it doesn't even have it in Ohio or Kansas. As the US Supreme Court observed in United States v. Lopez, 514 U.S. 546 (1995) It is worth noting that Congress, in the first federal criminal Act, did not establish nationwide prohibitions against murder and the like. See Act of April 30, 1790, ch. 9, 1 Stat. 112. To be sure, Congress outlawed murder, manslaughter, maiming, and larceny, but only when those acts were either committed on United States territory not part of a State or on the high seas. Ibid. See U.S. Const., Art. I, 8, cl. 10 (authorizing Congress to outlaw piracy and felonies on high seas); Art. IV, 3, cl. 2 (plenary authority over United States territory and property). When Congress did enact nationwide criminal laws, it acted pursuant to direct grants of authority found in the Constitution. Compare Act of April 30, 1790, supra, 1 and 14 (prohibitions against treason and the counterfeiting of U.S. securities) with U.S. Const., Art. I, 8, cl. 6 (counterfeiting); Art. III, 3, cl. 2 (treason). Notwithstanding any substantial effects that murder, kidnaping, or gun possession might have had on interstate commerce, Congress understood that it could not establish nationwide prohibitions. As I discuss in 'The Mouse That's Roaring' in 'Upholding the Law and Other Observations':
The federal government is provided with general legislative
authority only over its territories and possessions (among which are
included areas ceded to that government by explicit union-state
action). As was
declared by counsel for the United States before the Supreme Court
in United States v. Bevans, 16 U.S. 336 (1818):
“The
exclusive jurisdiction which the United States have in forts and
dock-yards ceded to them, is derived from the express assent of the
states by whom the cessions are made. It could be derived in no
other manner; because without it, the authority of the state would
be supreme and exclusive therein,”
with the
court, in its ruling agreeing:
“What, then, is the extent of
jurisdiction which a state possesses? We answer, without hesitation,
the jurisdiction of a state is co-extensive with its territory;”
In
New Orleans v. United States, 35 U.S. (10 Pet.) 662, 737 (1836), the
court reiterates this principle:
“Special provision is made in the Constitution for the cession of
jurisdiction from the States over places where the federal
government shall establish forts or other military works. And it is
only in these places, or in the territories of the United States,
where it can exercise a general jurisdiction.”
We must all of us always be on guard against this federal overreach, even when it appears to be on behalf of a cause we support, or which tugs our heartstrings. As Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis wisely observed: "The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well-meaning but without understanding."

P. S. I know a lot of folks out there have self-defeating notions planted in their minds about how clearing up confusion about the "income tax" won't matter, "'Cause they'll just pay for all the badness with inflation, man!" or whatever.
No, they won't.
If "they" could do that and survive politically, (and weren't getting a whole lot more out of the maladministration of the "income tax" than just a couple of trillion dollars a year, as well), the tax would've been dropped with a grimace and without a backward glance like the universally-hated thing that it is, at least forty years ago. This "they'll just inflate" thing could only be said by someone not old enough (or alive at all) during the 1970s when we had a test of just how Americans would tolerate real inflation...
(Not that we're going to be spared getting a good dose of inflation soon anyway, you understand, unless we very quickly shrink the state down so small that it no longer has the resources to quash the emergence of free and valid currencies. This will only happen by Americans reclaiming individual control of their resources, as is relied upon by the framers in their design for a meaningfully-Constitutionally-limited republic-- and that, of course, is what this page is all about.)
The misunderstanding of the income tax is the thoroughly cultivated thing that it is (and anyone reading through this page will come to understand just how diligent is that cultivation) BECAUSE THE MISAPPLIED TAX IS THE INDISPENSABLE LIFEBLOOD OF THE UNRESTRAINED STATE. The state knows this well.
Indeed, the reason the truth about the tax is hedged about with a more enormous army of lies (and constantly-recruited "stakeholding" defenders) than any other organ of the state is because it is so vital to Leviathan's excesses, ambitions and survival. It is the heart of the monster.
This document is the monster's bane. Your efforts to spread this shaft of illuminating, inspiring and disinfecting sunlight will do more for your future well-being and that of your children than anything else you could do.

Bob’s Bicycles or Getting Free Of The "Income" Tax Scheme Is As Easy As Falling Off A Bike
To get an idea of how today's "income" tax scheme works, try this little exercise:
Think of the federal government as a guy named Bob, who lives down the street from you in a town that is really big on bicycles. Bikes get used for commuting, deliveries, shopping, etc.. In fact, other than walking, bicycles are the exclusive form of transportation in your town. Your neighbor Bob has a by-the-mile bicycle-renting business-- "Bob's Bicycles". Bob's Bicycles is far and away the biggest business in town. Part of Bob’s success is because he does a lot of contract business. However, Bob doesn't just get paid by riders who have signed an agreement with him, or even just those using Bob's bikes. Bob gets something every time anybody in town does any riding at all, through an odd combination of circumstances that took many years to come together.
Here's how it happened...
Bob's Bicycles was launched long ago by the great grandfather of the present Bob (Bob IV). Great Grandpa Bob started out not only with a main location for his contract business-- he also had the bright idea of setting up spots around town where he parked some of his bikes for use by the more occasional rider, on an "honor system". Anyone could take and use one of these bikes, but they were expected to keep track of their mileage, and send Bob a "1040 Mileage Ridden/Rent Due Form" (and the appropriate rent), periodically. The initial design of the form was like this:
I said that Great Grandpa Bob planned to deal with these occasional riders on the "honor system", and that's true. But he liked his money, too, and didn't want to miss anything that was due him. So, after setting up the "self-serve" locations, Great Grandpa Bob went around handing out "W-2, 1099 or K-1 Rider Reporting Forms" to every other business in town. The forms-- accompanied by notices that if Bob didn't get his rent from someone riding a bicycle in connection with any business, he would sue the company involved-- said:

A "Pragmatic" Perspective On The Tax And The Rule Of Law Hey, don't bother me with that "morality" argument, and all that stuff about "upholding the rule of law". I'm a pragmatist. I'm just interested in looking out for numero uno, and living my life without any hassles from the IRS! So I'm okay with submissively letting my federal and state governments:
etc.... etc.... etc.. I'm good with all of it, just as long as I'm left alone, dude! -- TELL ME THIS ISN'T YOU! TELL ME YOU UNDERSTAND that leaving the government alone to break the law with impunity (and worse, participating in the process by lying on your own sworn tax returns, or by silently acquiescing to the erroneous allegations of others about your earnings) ensures NOT ONLY that you are morally and legally compromised, but also that you WON'T be "left alone, dude!" You DO understand this, right, dude? *** To suffer abuse without complaint or struggle is to suffer it nonetheless-- but to suffer it without the amelioration of dignity and self-respect. *** If You Have Done So, Aren't You Really, Really Glad YOU'VE Taken Control Of How Much Of YOUR Money Washington Gets To Spend, Just As The Founders Intended?

A Few Tips For Making Best Use Of This WebSite

When directed to a page by topic or link, read everything.
I know that this can mean the investment of a lot of time, attention and effort, but although some may imagine otherwise, I don't write as much as I do because I can't think of any other way to spend my time...
Furthermore, when you encounter a hyperlink within, or associated with, the text you are reading, follow it!
It is pretty common these days for web-based material to be littered with hyperlinks. Sometimes the purpose is to provide definitions or examples, in order to ensure that folks reading the original material aren't presented with a word or reference which they don't understand. Sometimes the links lead to illustrations pertinent to the original text.
It is common-- and perfectly understandable-- for folks who are confident that they are familiar with language or references within the main text they are reading to get in the habit of skipping over included links. I do it all the time, myself!
However, I very rarely include links for definitional or explanatory purposes; and when I DO make a link out of text in one page it is generally to another self-contained page, rather than merely illustrative material. These other pages contain material the clear understanding of which I deem highly important for the proper and complete understanding of the original page. (Links to CtC, the Victories pages, CtC Warriors and so on are obvious exceptions to this general rule. On the other hand, a link to the victory Highlights or 'Every Which Way But Loose' pages, which might seem like such exceptions, are not. The special selection of victories on those pages, and the filed docs and tax-agency correspondences included therewith, themselves constitute highly instructive material which merits careful attention. Thus care needs to be taken in all cases.)
Please make a habit of clicking on all provided links and at least looking briefly to ensure that the linked page is one with which you are completely familiar from another study session.
Finally, please keep in mind that, annoying though it may seem at first blush (but not, I trust, upon reflection), I constantly tweak material already posted. Obviously this doesn't mean that every page is in flux at all times, but it does mean that if you are directed to a page that IS familiar, it's worthwhile to read it through again if it's been a while since your last having done so.
