Just Say "No!" To Thugs
APRIL 15 IS "TAX DAY", the day by which most Americans will have
decided whether to stand for the law, or slink for a lie.
Weighing the scales on the side of standing up for the law are
self-respect, respect for the law, the well-being of our
children, our debt to the sacrifices of our ancestors, control
over nearly half of all that most of us sweat for every day of
our lives, and our ability to discipline the size and character
of the increasingly dangerous, increasingly contemptuous state.
On the side of the lie is the delusion harbored by many that by
endorsing the fiction of a personal indebtedness to their
"public servants" even when there is none, or when they have
made no study of the relevant law so as to know whether there is
one or not*, the cowed and craven will be "left alone" by the
monster which they have thus made stronger, more pervasive, more
undisciplined and more contemptuous of them for their latest
abject surrender to its unbridled lust.
LET'S LOOK AT WHAT "BEING LEFT ALONE" WILL INVOLVE:
-
The loss of 45% or so of the "left alone" person's earnings
(a good portion of which will be handed over to special
interests who will enjoy the fruits of the earner's labor in
his stead, while kicking back a goodly portion of the cream
to the political operatives in the way of campaign
contributions in order to ensure that the cycle continues to
fester and worsen);
-
Financing the continued and increasingly vigorous
ministrations of the army of bureaucrats whose well-paid
mission in life is to dictate every aspect of the "left
alone" person's life, from the way he cuts his grass to the
way he raises his children, along with the lawyers, cops and
guards who will see to his punishment for any resistance to
those dictates;
-
Encouraged and accelerated state evasions of the rule of law
in all other areas, including, but not limited to, forcing
the "left alone" person to spend what wealth is left to him
in the interests of factions who have purchased influence
with the political elite (like the "healthcare mandate");
ever greater assaults on personal privacy; the assertion of
non-constitutionally-authorized power over American energy
consumption ("cap and trade" and other
let's-all-get-destitute-together-'cause-otherwise-the-sky-will-fall!
"green" shades of lipstick on old socialist tyranny pigs);
and the continued erosion of legal protections for those
accused by the state of failing to adequately love and obey
its commands.
Such a deal!
Further, of course, not only is this kind of "being left alone"
NOT being left alone at all, but making a false choice of this
sort now also means the loss of one more annual opportunity to
loosen the rack on which the American heritage of liberty and
law has been being systematically broken for decades now. Every
person who chooses to go with a lie lends his or her weight to
turning the ratchet on that rack past another, tighter notch.
ON THE OTHER HAND, every American who says "No!" to lying, and
to the thugs whose ambition for control over our lives, fortunes
and sacred honor the lies serve, stands with the Founding
generation in mature, honorable acceptance of the
sometimes-inconvenient reality that Constitutions can't enforce
themselves and those whom the law seeks to restrain can't be
relied upon to faithfully exercise those restraints over
themselves. As Frederick Douglas observed,
"Power concedes nothing without a
demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what any
people will quietly submit to and you have the exact measure of
the injustice and wrong which will be imposed on them, and these
will continue till they have been resisted with either words or
blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the
endurance of those whom they suppress."
Only a deluded fool would think otherwise.
THE ADVERSARIES OF THE FOUNDERS' VISION of a free America graced
with a strictly limited government hope that everyone is a
deluded fool. They hope that even those who have not engaged in
taxable activities will bow and submit to their avarice and
ambition in order to be "left alone" another year, under the
delusion that if and when being "left alone" gets too
intolerable, there'll still be time then to stand up and lay
down the law, and make everything right.
Sadly, that there'll be time to stand up and lay down the law
when being "left alone" grows intolerable is a pipe-dream. Every
time an American makes the wrong choice the adversaries of the
Founders' vision grow stronger and the people grow weaker. As
one member of America's greatest generation pointed out when
faced with the same choice,
"They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with
so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger?
Will it be the next week, or the next year? Will it be when
we are totally disarmed, and when a British guard shall be
stationed in every house? Shall we gather strength by
irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of
effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and
hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies
shall have bound us hand and foot? Sir, we are not weak if
we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature
hath placed in our power. The millions of people, armed in
the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that
which we possess, are invincible by any force which our
enemy can send against us. Besides, sir, we shall not fight
our battles alone. There is a just God who presides over the
destinies of nations, and who will raise up friends to fight
our battles for us. The battle, sir, is not to the strong
alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave.
Besides, sir, we have no election. If we were base enough to
desire it, it is now too late to retire from the contest.
There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our
chains are forged! Their clanking may be heard on the plains
of Boston! The war is inevitable--and let it come! I repeat
it, sir, let it come.
It is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter. Gentlemen
may cry, Peace, Peace-- but there is no peace. The war is
actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north
will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! Our
brethren are already in the field! Why stand we here idle?
What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is
life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the
price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know
not what course others may take; but as for me, give me
liberty or give me death!"
Sound hokey, and dated, maybe even quaint? Sure. And subjugating
a people under some fictional pretense of authority, and
commanding them like slaves or serfs, thanks to the successful
propagation of myths about "tax amendments", "social contracts"
and "collective responsibilities"-- fortified by the subtext
that to stand up and say "NO!" is to risk being singled out for
"special attention"-- is hokey, dated and quaint, too, because
it is the age-old dynamic by which tyrants ply their craft. But
that dynamic hasn't gone away, however quaint it may be; and
thus Patrick Henry's clear-eyed wisdom and resolution remain
just as timely today as they were in 1775.
HOW WE GO FROM HERE AND NOW IS IN YOUR HANDS.
This great country got where it is now by a series of bad
choices, made one by one, person by person, over a century of
apathy, delusion, and fear.
Its road back to liberty and the rule of law can only be
navigated by another series of choices-- good choices, made one
by one, person by person, with courage and commitment to the
truth.

sadly funny that many people made much of the fact that members
of Congress didn't read the 'healthcare reform act' before
signing it, and yet those same folks won't bother reading the
tax laws before signing their own tax forms?

I wrote this back in 2000 when the "Million Mom March" took
place during the last major "gun-control" madness. I'm pleased
to re-present a slightly-updated version for continuing service
today
The Million Mom Moue
RECENTLY, ORGANIZERS WHIPPED TO A FROTHY FRENZY by
sensationalist hype mobilized an eye-catching host of miffed
mothers in the ‘Million Mom March’ on Washington, demanding that
the State usurp their children’s birthright of freedom in order,
apparently, to spare these women the trouble of seeking out safe
schools and day-care centers, or otherwise looking out for their
own interests at their own expense.
Declining to put forth the effort to equip themselves with facts
and stand tall like adults, these hypnotized activists, puffed
with media attention and public-school-fed self-esteem, are
confident in their effortless, clueless opinion that the
existence of guns in private hands is the source of their
inconvenience. By God, they’re Mad as Hell, and They’re Not
Going to Take It Anymore!!
Parroting without scrutiny erroneous and fraudulent special
interest claims and cooked statistics about violence in schools,
lawlessness in the streets, and the role of guns in history,
politics, and modern society, the million Moms stand ready to
trade the Second Amendment for a promise of wisdom and
benevolence from the same bureaucratic monolith that gave them
those shoddy, dangerous public schools and drug-war fueled
gangland urban battlefields.
This rising up of Oprah’s national audience is both comical and
tragic. It is comical that these women imagined themselves to be
girding up their loins and bravely marching into the political
arena, jaws square and eyes grim to demand action, compelling
media coverage in order to pressure recalcitrant lawmakers. The
reality was and is that they are the deluded victims of that
same media and those same demagogic politicians, both of whom
are happy to seize upon such ‘calls to action’ as an opportunity
to pander even further to these welcome marks.
The tragedy is that these women, willing (or even eager) to live
their lives as children, are buying wide-eyed into the well
packaged promise that everything will be all right if they just
let the nice man into the house... that’s right, take the chain
off the door, sweetheart, I’m not going to hurt you... give me
the gun... They will make as their lesson and their legacy to
those children-- on whose behalf they claim to act-- surrender
and prostration before the State.
The movie title will be: "Mrs. Smith goes to Washington, listens
to some Sweet Nothings, and gets Date-Raped".
IF
MOM WERE SERIOUS ABOUT THE SAFETY OF HER KIDS IN SCHOOL, in fact
if she were concerned about their well-being in general, she
would be learning and acting on
the truth about the "income tax" so that she or Dad could
afford to drop their career and homeschool little Justin and
Jennifer. For that matter, if safety was truly the issue she
would be cutting up her driver’s license, because FAR more kids
are killed in auto accidents than are killed by guns.
But both of those real solutions would be inconvenient for
today's modern, a-go-go Mom. Better for her to buy her
conscience some time by infringing on her neighbor's rights
while equipping herself with the comforting fantasy that she’s
"taking on the problem."
This all puts me in mind of a possible real solution to our real
problem: Let's make an oath to uphold and defend the
Constitution--
which prohibits gun control-- a requirement every
time a voter exercises the franchise.

S. The bright side of this otherwise depressing story is that
the MMM activism has stimulated some counter-activism by
grown-up women calling themselves the Second Amendment Sisters,
whose website can be accessed at
www.2asisters.net. I hope all freedom loving ladies will
visit them and give some thought to joining them in their
defense of liberty.

If You're Not Standing Up, Then You're Standing Down
..and "standing down" means "going down"
MY FRIENDS, IT IS MY SINCERE BELIEF that this community of
activists has been encouraged, inspired, enlightened and expanded over
the years by the steady posting here of
your ongoing victories on behalf
of the rule of law. Certainly, it has been my pride and my joy to help
you share with the world your honorable testament to the liberating
truth about the tax, widespread knowledge of which is so critical to the
well-being of ourselves, our children, and our beloved America.
However, unless YOU send those victories I can't post them. Unless YOU
stand up, your courage and commitment can't inspire anyone.
YOU WILL RECALL THAT FOR THE LAST YEAR OR SO I've been telling you that
we are in a transformational moment. Look around at what is going on
today and recognize the truth of what I say.
More than half the American population views the state as a threat.
As mainstream a publication as Forbes magazine is posting
articles about massive DHS ammunition and armored vehicle purchases.
The
LA Times,
NY Times,
Washington Times and other mainstream organs are editorializing
about Leviathan having grown too big, and gotten dangerously out-of-hand
(see stories at each of the preceding links). Rand Paul's filibuster
denouncing the lawlessness of Mordor-on-the-Potomac has prompted a major
buzz across the country.
Concurrently, this
CtC
community has been winning legal victories and refunds which are
ever-more significant and telling. Consider, for instance, the
half-dozen victories won during the last twelve months which qualified
for the EWWBL collection (starting
with episode 39). Every one of these is an especially illuminating
acknowledgement of the truth about the tax, and included in this handful
is a very significant two-time victory in a federal district court.
Things are happening!
HOW IT ALL SHAKES OUT is still up for grabs, though. This is not the
time for either complacency or paralysis, because both of those don't
amount to "doing nothing"-- instead they amount to "standing down". And
standing down means conceding the fight, letting all these eleventh-hour
sparks of light burn out unnurtured and the moment be a transformation
for the worse.
This is not the time for standing down. This is the time for a
FULL-COURT PRESS.
This is the time for educated American grown-ups to stand up tall and
firm, pulling others to their feet by their very gravity. This is the
time for leading the way.
